Modern Coops Make Chicken-Raising Cool

October 26, 2010

Modern Coop John Wright

I just embarked on a design/build project with my high school students, to conceive of and construct an affordable (and beautiful) chicken coop for rural families. In our research, we stumbled upon a ton of great precedent, including the Modern Coop by John Wright. The stylish, compact coop is made from reclaimed cedar wood, and because it is mobile, it requires no foundation, and can be toted from one end of your garden to the other. The roof is a standard fiberglass or metal, but you can also opt for a green roof (better insulation, and healthier for the chickens too!). The coops sell for around $750 with free delivery in Portland, other locations upon request.
