Gorgeous Ceramic Cooling Screen by StudioKahn
October 21, 2010

There are some design concepts that make me stop and "ooh and aaah" at the grace and poetry of a smart and well-executed solution. Mey and Boaz Kahn of the Isreali design firm Studio Kahn have put forth such a concept. Their ceramic "Ecooler" screen recently took third prize in the iida 2010 competition with a beautiful solution to a common problem. The ceramic modules are hand-cast and hollow inside, and can be connected to dozens of others to create a wall of wall-filled structure. The screen naturally cools internal spaces by using the properties of ceramic material and "water pocket" within through seepage and evaporation during daytime and nighttime.
