Katie Thompson's Quirky Suitcase Furniture

October 11, 2010

Describing her work as "an extra ordinary range of recycled furniture," South African designer Katie Thompson turns baggage into beautiful chairs, tables, and ottomans. Her self-founded firm, ReCreate chair

ReCreate, brings a quirky sense of fun to reusing our most vernacular objects. Suitcase chairs and tables are made from rescued luggage, and with the help of a steel-reinforced sub-structure, wooden legs, and some well-selected upholstery, they have a sort of heirloom quality that brings character and embedded history to any room. Katie also has a line of lighting, including umbrella chandeliers, and interior accessories that integrate everything from old plates to trash can lids. See the whole line here.
