IKEA's Great Green Products

Regardless of what you think about big-box retailers, it is hard to ignore the affordable design of IKEA's products, and even harder to ignore given their recent efforts in sustainability. In partnership with the World Wildlife Fund, they have been focusing on efforts that range from lower-impact cotton production to reusable shopping bags and energy-efficient bulbs. By paying attention to energy sources, material sourcing, and the environmental impact of production methods, IKEA does in fact have some great green products to offer, like their IKEA 365+ RISP duvet set, made from cotton and lyocell (a wood pulp-based fiber). Another favorite is the quirky IKEA PS Hällar stool (below), handmade from woven banana fibers, with a steel frame that makes it sturdy for lounging or sitting. Both products are affordable, from $50-$70 USD. Check out their green efforts at your local IKEA store or at ikea.com.
