Weirdly Awesome Plumen Bulbs Coming Soon the US

September 16, 2010

Plumen Bulb

Hopefully by now we've all switched to CFL's for their uber-efficiency, and now here's another twist: the Plumen bulb is a CFL that, with a little extra design attention, has been developed into a more appealing form than the standard spiral. The form is so beautiful, in fact, that many consumers leave it exposed, rather than hiding it behind a fixture or lampshade. The bulb also uses 80-percent less energy and lasts 8 times longer than incandescent bulbs. The company notes that what the bulb offers in aesthetics can sometimes be the tipping point for on-the-fence consumers who aren't easily willing to pay the extra few dollars for the eco-friendly bulbs. While Plumen is currently available only in Europe right now, it is coming to the US soon.

I'm with Mary. My mom just switched all the CFL's BACK to incandescent b/c of the affects it has on my father's diabetes and other ailments. I don't think we should just ditch the incandescent bulbs altogether. We don't know fully the affects of these CFL's especially when they break, with all that lovely mercury that's in them.

It is indeed a more pleasing shape, but CFLs are not the answer to all lighting needs. One size/type lighting does not fit all. CFLs have to burned in the correct position. They are vulnerable to temperature, voltage change and electromagnetic devices Not suitable for constant on-off operation, their color has to suit what they are lighting.

No , I haven't switched to mercury laden bulbs that require a haz-mat suit when they break.

What coldness? 99% of CFL have been manufactured with phosphors to match the 2700-2800K temperature of incandescent lamps.

I never think anyone objects to the shape, but rather the coldness of the light. If this were an incandescent color, it would be really beautiful.
