A Coat of Paint Goes a Long Way
Artists Haas and Hahn prove that paint does have the ability to transform a space and a community. They have taken to the concrete favelas in Brazil, bringing graphic excitement to the otherwise blighted neighborhoods. While the solutions are merely superficial, they have brought a local pride that permeates households, families, and the community as a whole.
The neighborhood, Santa Marta, is known as one of the country's most infamous shantytowns, which is now known for its colorful landscape. Because the favelas are not beholden to any particular color or code standards, Haas and Hahn's solution represents a great intervention of design and color that truly does make an impact.
