Sansin: Penetrating Color - Safely

May 12, 2010

Color is often the culprit in bumping up the VOCs in paints and stains. The deeper and more saturated the pigment, the bigger the increase.

That’s why the Sansin Corporation decided to design forward with a new color system that performs like a rich, uniform dye but with one-tenth the VOCs – important for those wanting low toxicity/fumes indoors, but rich color results.

With the just announced introduction of the new Eco-Tone Color System for its Purity Interior Enviro Stain, Sansin now offers dye-like color with a fraction of the toxicity found in conventional, solvent-based dyes.

“The challenge for our industry has been that no matter how low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs) you get the base stain, you will see a dramatic increase in VOC content – sometimes as much as 100% - once color is added,” said Sjoerd Bos, Vice President of Sansin. “This is why we’ve developed our own color system – to give customers an amazing color palette without the spike in toxins.”

Sansin, a pioneer in the use of environmentally friendly wood protection, uses pure pigments, ground so fine, according to the company, they are able to combine with the base for a more sustainable alternative to traditional dyes.

I like Sansin. They have a genuine and long-standing commitment to the environment with product innovations that use nature’s own ingredients – resins and gums from the heartwood of trees – to deliver protection.  Its Second Nature program focuses on energy savings, waste reduction and recycling with a goal of operating a sustainable zero waste production facility.
