Copenhagen Design Week 2009 starts today!

While I’m not usually a fan of the over-the-top luxury spectacles and unjustifiable waste production of most design conventions, Copenhagen Design Week, which opens today and runs through September 6th, has a clear focus not just on the S word (sustainability), but on design for a changing world and design for social impact. I’ll be attending their Copenhagen Co’creation summit, which hopes to collectively draft a new manifesto for user-centered design that matters. Other highlights of the week include The Index Award’s Design to Improve Life reception, exhibition, and award ceremony, and Future Living: Building Sustainability, which will take a hard look at the role of architecture and urban planning in building our future responsibly. It’s great to see that an entire week of design can focus on future solutions, rather than today’s aesthetics. View all the programming on their site- hope to see you there!
