The Simplest, Most Cork-like Cork Stool

September 25, 2008

One of the original green materials, cork is most commonly made from the thick bark of a cork oak tree, a species that regrows its bark in very short regrowth cycles, thus making it a relatively renewable material (similar to bamboo). For design applications, it’s light, durable, and can be used for everything from seating to flooring to wall treatments. Vitra’s Cork Family stools make great side tables or stools, and they’re pared down to the most minimal form, which coincidentally resembles, you guessed it, a wine cork. $380 from Design Public.
