Hugh Hayden's Tennis Ball Chair

May 26, 2009

One of the crowd favorites during Brooklyn Design Week was Hugh Hayden’s FUNATURE tennis ball chair, whose Eames-esque curvature takes shape using dozens of tennis balls. I appreciate this design for its overt reuse of a familiar object, but even more for its tongue-in-cheek approach to sustainable design. Doesn’t design need a little humor these days?

I met Hugh at the ICFF last weekend. Awesome guy and looking forward to seeing more from him. We all need more DIY design in our lives!
