Turn Your Wine Corks into Tiles!

July 14, 2008

Not that we want to encourage drinking for the sake of green design, but if you’re a viticulture aficionado (aka wine-lover), here’s a great way to turn all those corks into a great green material for your kitchen- or wine cellar! Now that’s what we call closing a loop… Missouri-based company Yemm & Hart, whose efforts began as a small-scale material exploration, can now shred and compress your wine corks into floor tiles suitable for all kinds of interior applications.

The process is quite simple, as Yemm & Hart accepts wine cork donations (warning: you need a good amount to yield usable tile quantities- 10 pounds of corks or more), cleaned, ground/sliced, and combined with a finer granulated cork, then compressed and re-sliced into tiles. We love the idea that your home’s waste could be recycled into a part of your home!

That's a greatidea. I created a large cork board, but I still have more corks to use! www.mslistologist.com
