In-Home Water Filtration: No more bottles!

March 24, 2009

This is by no means newsworthy, but I feel the need to express my utter frustration and fed-uppedness with the ubiquity of bottled water. We should all know better by now, particularly given the affordability of great in-home water filtration solutions like the PUR 2 Stage Dispenser, only $26 from Amazon. Brita has a variety of great options as well. As an interior designer, think holistically about how your clients use their homes, their kitchens, and try to support good green practices within those spaces.

I agree, I recently re-did my kitchen and installed an under the sink filter from cuno. No more bottled water for me. I didn't realize how much i would use it. Not only for drinking water but for cooking and for making coffee too. I'm not crazy about the pitcher filters. I had to fill them to often and it just took up space in my refridgerator.

It is more fun to use something that is pretty and well made. If you have something beautiful, people (at least I) tend to take better care of it, use it more often and it lasts longer - so it needs to be manufactured only once. I also like the signal that these eco design status symbols send out - for me it means: there is somebody out there who also cares about the environment. Sometimes I can feel very "

Emily, I couldn't agree with you more. It's also crazy how people are patting themselves on the back for buying $60 grocery tote bags and $28 alumninum water bottles when a simple drinking glass or cheap tote bag would do. If they really wanted to help the environment, they'd buy the cheeper alternatives and send the $ difference to charity.
