Purpose Restoration gives furniture a 2nd life

Despite all our green material options these days, from FSC-certified wood to agricultural byproduct panels, low- and no-VOC paints, etc, there’s something honest and uber-green about simply making the old and discarded beautiful again. Case in point, Jason Fox’s Culver City-based Purpose Restoration, a troupe of designers, carpenters, and other craftsmen who do more than just repainting, taking old furniture to a beautifully graphic level. The Pratt graduate set up shop in 2009 and has since worked on tons of restoration projects. In some cases, the client provides the piece of furniture; in others, Jason finds it himself. The restoration process might include sanding, detailing, painting, stenciling, finishing, and more. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that is an instant heirloom, reflecting the character and stories of the person owning it. Check out his full collection of work here.

Just watch the videos, then go to Harbor Freight and buy an English wheel and any other tools you may need such as an air saw, etc. Find a local metal yard such as Patton's, Industrial Metal Supply or Kastle Metals and get some metal to prtciace on. And don't forget to see if you can scrounge some scraps of sheet metal from places that make air conditioning ducts or other stuff like that. My bro got some great pieces of SS scrap from a place that builds traffic light control boxes. Randy
