Solé Integrated Solar Roof Tiles

December 3, 2009

While many of us have come to believe that solar panels are great green sense, they can in fact be something of an eyesore when combined with the often disparate architecture on which they sit.  For ceramic tile roofs, though, Solé Power Tiles may be the solution. The electricity-generating “barrel-style” tiles can be installed easily to integrate with US Tile’s traditional clay tile roofing. The tiles carry the same shape as the ceramic tiles, and stealthily conceal all solar components. Aside from the blue color, they’re practically camoflauged into your home’s silhouette. For more info visit US Tile or SRS Energy.

I like these tiles very much! Can you imagine how many places these would look GREAT??? (Just hope price is not too much of an issue vs regular solar...)

We can reuse plastics to make these tiles. They are green, because they create energy from a renewable source. It does take lots of fossil fuels to produce solar panels, but in the end the energy they create for your home is better then fossil fuels.

Wait! Aren't these solar tiles made of plastic? How can they be "green" then? Don't they get hot in the summer, unlike ceramic tiles which absorb moisture at night and cool the roof through the day? Aren't these tiles a fire hazard? And, finally, isn't exterior design better left to exterior designers?
