Containers to Clinics: Mobile Healthcare

There are many people who believe that shipping containers may be the solution to the global shelter problem. I have always believed containers to be inhumane as basic housing. However, Containers to Clinics may have found one use for shipping containers that makes good sense: mobile health clinics in disaster and underserved regions worldwide. As functional clinics that must be easily deployable, the container is a perfect modular solution that changes the delivery model for basic health care.

C2C (Containers to Clinics) retrofits the containers and outfits them with high-quality equipment, medicines, and medical staff. The clinics are then transported to underserved areas of the developing world to administer primary healthcare to women and children. Each module has self-contained diagnostic, lighting, and climate-control technologies that are appropriate for low-resource settings and reflect local cultural traditions and health education needs.

The initial company launch came just in time for the Haiti earthquake, and C2C hopes to have hundreds if not thousands of clinics deployed in the coming years. Read more about the organization here.
