The New LEED: Timeline

LEED 2009

So many questions! Everyone wants to know! When will LEED 2009 go live? When will the new reference guides become available? Can I still take the current exams?

Most answers are shown in the graphic above. Here are a few more details.
LEED NC (hereafter known as BD+C) and LEED CI (aka ID+C) will go live in March (the exact date isn’t available) for project registrations. Any projects registered under the current versions will have the option of certifying under the existing rating system or upgrading to LEED 2009.

The new version of LEED EB Operations and Maintenance (aka OM) went live on September 1, 2008.

NC and CI exam takers have until March 31 to register to take the current exam. You may take the exam after that (I’m not sure for how long), but likely to the end of the summer. If you should fail, however, you will not be able to re-register for the same exam. The OM exam is currently in Beta testing and will be launching this spring, as will the Green Associate or core exam–exact dates uncertain.

USGBC has posted a LEED 2009 Info Page, but it’s short on specifics. Keep checking back. There’s also a USGBC Customer Service Number (800-795-1747) if you want to talk with an actual person. You may also refer back to my blog post on LEED APs  for more information on the program.

“WOW! I am thrilled that there are more and more organizations joining the "green revolution". I became LEED accredited just this year (btw if anyone out there is looking to become a LEED professional try Clean Edison. Their courses are outstanding and they guarantee you pass the first time..they have classes all over the US).
