Anna Sova: Just Like a Milkshake

Anna Sova is one of my most intimate relationships; in fact, I spend time with her most nights.

Actually, it’s her Sensuale 600 thread count cotton sheets from the Ultimate Eco White Bed Collection that I snuggle with. I love the look and feel of the bedding, but also the fact that no dioxin bleaches or optical whiteners are used in their production.

Other collections feature 100 percent certified-organic fabrics that use no toxic fertilizers or petrochemical pesticides, no azo or heavy metal dyes, no formaldehyde or silicone sizing. All are made according to fair labor practices, guaranteed by personal visits to every factory producing her fabrics by CEO Anna Walker.

On its website the company points out that “Conventional cotton makes up only three percent of the world’s crops, but uses 25 percent of the world’s pesticides annually. Every pound of cotton grown (equal to one t-shirt) has been treated with one third pound of pesticide. Pesticide residues often can remain in the fabric through the processing and finishing stages of the garment, bringing traces of these toxic chemicals into your home.”

Also on the market are Anna Sova food-based wall paints. Made with up to 99 percent food grade ingredients such as milk casein (as in yogurt), titanium dioxide (as in powdered donuts), food emulsifiers, and preservatives (as in milkshakes and chocolates), they are a healthful alternative to standard latex paint. In fact, says the company, the paints smell vaguely of vanilla milkshakes (instead of plastic VOCs).

Available in a palette of more than 500 colors plus custom mixing, it is available in three finishes: Healthy Wall Paint, Healthy Wall Texture and Healthy Wall Stucco,  and it is so environmentally safe that leftovers can be dumped into the garden compost heap without damaging the soil.
