Green Pillow Tossing

February 27, 2009

If you’re going to toss pillows, make sure they’re green. That’s easy to do with Alejandra Dunphy Textiles. This new line of eco-friendly pillows, rugs, throws and accessories are fresh, contemporary, and healthy for the home and for the environment.

Inspired by simplicity, nature, organic shapes and architecture, the collection includes both hand-knitted and hand-loomed products. 100% natural fibers such as certified organic cotton, luxurious alpaca, among others are colored with natural dyes and woven using ancient weaving techniques that have been passed down through many generations. Products are made to order reducing excessive waste to landfills.

The big plus for me is the company’s commitment to socially responsible eco-practices that support fair trade by working with artisans and women’s cooperatives in Peru. Dunphy aims to provide them and their families with a better quality of life. No child labor is used. It’s much easier NOT to pay attention to these issues but the designer is both passionate and committed.

Toss away!
