Documenting LEED - HELP!

NOTE TO MANUFACTURES:
I was poking around some of your websites last week researching an article and here’s some advice. If you’re interested in having your product specified on LEED projects, make it super easy to find supporting documentation – no more than 2-3 clicks from your home page.

LEED documentation is demanding and designers are busy people. They need your help.

Different credits demand different data as specified in the requirements and on the letter templates. Product driven credits – water use reduction, recycled content, regional materials, low-emitting materials, for example – will ask for performance and technical specifications.

Here’s a good example. MRc4 requires percentages of both the pre- and post-consumer recycled content found in a product. EcoSurfaces, a manufacturer of recycled rubber flooring, provides an itemized recycled content chart - three clicks (though not entirely intuitive) to sufficient information for documentation.

Armstrong Ceilings makes it easy to document MRc5 (Regional Materials) with this handy map of its U.S. manufacturing locations but I had to enter the search term “LEED” to find it on the website. What’s up with that, Armstrong?

I hereby call on all product manufacturers to post easy-to-read data in easy-to-find locations on your websites. There are 11,000 projects in the LEED pipeline. Surely some of them want to use your products.
