LEED Launch Dates

March 20, 2009

After much waiting, wondering and worrying by its loyal followers, USGBC has finally announced the schedule for the launch of LEED 2009 and the new LEED AP exams.

As reported by BuildingGreen, LEED 2009, including the new LEED Online, will launch officially on April 27, 2009. On that same date, project registrations and certifications will be transferred to and administered by GBCI, the related third party arm of USGBC that currently handles LEED AP credentialing.

Projects currently registered, and those who do so by June 27th, may continue to use the current LEED rating systems or may (preferably) transfer to the new systems.

As for the LEED AP exams, there are only days left, until March 31st, to register for the existing LEED-NC and LEED-CI exams. June 30th is the last day to take them. Here are some important dates for the revised and newly named LEED AP exams:

  • May 2009: New LEED Green Associate exam launched
  • May 2009: New LEED AP + Operations & Maintenance Exam launched
  • June 2009: New LEED AP + Homes Exam launched
  • Fall 2009: New LEED AP + Building Design & Construction and LEED AP + Interior Design & Construction exams launched.

Unfortunately the USGBC website does not yet have this information. Thanks again to BuildingGreen for an advanced peek.

It doesn't.Our society rieels on continuing economic growth. Even when we do have recessions or depressions, we want to think of them as temporary phenomenon.Investment decisions are based on ROI (return on investment), etc.But continuous economic growth just isn't sustainable. To be truly sustainable, the economy has to be essentially static (or oscillating which most consider worse)We see this in ecological studies both theoretical and of countless other species, but we haven't wanted to apply our knowledge to ourselves.

Great! Thanks for the heads up. I just took the LEED for Homes Test Prep class Monday at Southface. The credits are somewhat similar to the LEED CI mixed with LEED NC, but with a more residential feel. As an existing LEED AP, I was told that we have two years to pick a track from the new structure and take a test in that area. That is if I understand it correctly. It's a little confusing. Apparently, the existing LEED APs will be considered a "
