The Challenge - Envision the Future

February 10, 2010

Record amounts of snow in Washington, DC. Vancouver is worried about having enough for the Winter Olympics. Is climate change the culprit?

Explore the issues and your creativity. Create a video (of no more than 2 minutes) that depicts how climate change will impact and shape our future over the next 20 to 30 years. IDEO, a global design and innovation firm, is partnering with is partnering with DESIGN 21 – a popular online platform to promote design for the greater good – to create the Living Climate Change Video Challenge. People of all ages are asked to craft videos that envision a sustainable future as society moves along the path toward reduced carbon emissions.

Create an original video that envisions how climate change will impact our lives over the next 20 to 30 years. Looking beyond the doom and gloom and the policy discussions that have dominated the debate, how would you envision a human-centered, sustainable future? Which behaviors will change? Which will be preserved?

“Living Climate Change is an open invitation to designers and non-designers alike to think creatively about an issue that impacts us all,” says Jennifer Leonard, IDEO designer and co-editor of Living Climate Change. “Our hope is that it will stimulate the kind of dialogue that creates community, supports optimism and inspires new choices.”

One winner in each age category (18 & under and 18+) will be awarded a grand prize of $3,000 plus a "Deep Dive" half-day workshop with IDEO. Deadline for entries: Tuesday, May 25, 2010.

Check out all the details. Then will somebody please come and dig me out?
