Sleep Tight with EL: Environmental Language
Jill Salisbury is my favorite furniture designer. Environmental Language, her line of contemporary furnishings, is gorgeous and deeply, deeply green. I could easily live in harmonious content with any of them.
Jill has added two new beds to her collection: the Zen Bed and Crescendo Bed. Both embody Jill’s belief that design integrity and environmental responsibility can harmoniously work together to create furniture that balances well-being with living well. From the press release:
The Zen Bed is a transitional piece that combines classic design elements with clean, crisp contemporary lines. The centerpiece of the bed features a geometrically adorned headboard that showcases a harlequin-inspired pattern, handsomely framed by inlaid Tagua Nut, which mimics ivory. The dark, rich wood combined with the Tagua Nut accent offers a play of contrasts that serve to bring out the natural beauty of the bed.
The Zen Bed is made with a sustainably harvested Walnut veneer on FSC-certified core material with a Tagua Nut inlay. Tagua Nut is an inedible nut found in Ecuador. It is a readily renewable material that is traditionally used by local artisans to carve small, sculptured figures. The finish is a non-toxic, clear lacquer derived from tree sap.
The Crescendo Bed unites opposing elements of natural bamboo and ebony-washed walnut with straight lines and soft bends that form this modern interpretation of the Sleigh Bed. Inspired by movement, the graceful curves move the eye from end to end.
The Crescendo Bed frame is FSC-certified core material with a sustainably harvested Walnut veneer and Bamboo. Bamboo is considered to be a readily renewable resource. Because it grows back rapidly, it is classified as a grass. Finishes are non-toxic and naturally derived.
The beds are made from 100 percent sustainable materials and deliver heirloom quality craftsmanship with forms that celebrate the design as well as the materials.
It is rare to find this level of rigorous environmental commitment coupled with sophisticated and elegant design. EL’s products should be part of every designer’s repertoire.
