Deborah Hamon
This week was my husband Jaime's birthday. We spent the day shopping, lunching, and enjoying each other's company in SoHo. Its a rare pleasure being able to act like you are on vacation in your own city, but it always inspires me and leaves me wondering why I don't do this more often.
While we were shopping in a men's store I took a picture on my iPhone of some wallpaper I liked: a gigantic, modernized houndstooth. The shop attendant asked me why I was taking the picture and I told him it inspired me. He then proceeded to asked me about 20 more questions and chit chat about inspiration in this crazy cool city I live in. As a designer I need an inspiration IV going straight to the aorta, pumping ideas into my design heart. I get inspiration from everywhere, but I want to share an image that really touched me this week.
This is a piece from artist Deborah Hamon. She is part of an incredibly inspiring art collection called the West Collection which is curated by my friend Paige West. I love window shopping on their website and gasping at the astonishingly amazing art. The piece is called Wonderland (of course it is) and the artist uses photography and photoshop and painting to construct a new reality.
