Newport Mansions EJ Victor showroom at High Point

October 19, 2010

EJ Victor

At High Point this week, I helped to unveil a newly redecorated Newport Mansions showroom at EJ Victor with five new pieces of furniture I designed. These pieces are made with glass panels painted to resemble metal work designs seen at some of the well known historic houses of Newport. My favorite piece is the sea life-inspired Marine mirror which juxtaposes the brilliant panels with slightly distressed wood. There is also a corresponding chest of the same materials. As I said to some of the visitors to the showroom, this is the type of furniture that decorating clients seem to want today: singular, serviceable, and not deeply expensive (the Mirror retails for $2937 and the chest $4497).

The newly conceived showroom is transported by classic decorating devices. Many of the existing pieces in the collection were re-painted white with blue detailing and the floor was redone in a shiny blue. The showroom is tied together with a great print fabric from Schumacher called Canton. Blue and White decoration with a few interesting pieces always has a happy audience--at least in the traditional sphere of design, but probably so in the modern one as well.

Actually the Schumacher fabric is called "Nanjing" - I just saw the post on their blog.
