"Inspired by Soane:" Artworks to keep you guessing

September 14, 2010

We were recently invited to create an artcard for inclusion in Sir John Soane Museum's charity exhibition, "Inspired by Soane." The show is being held at the museum in London from September 9 through October 1. Afterwards, the works will be sold in a blind auction to benefit the museum during their gala "Soane Banquet" on October 7. The rules are that buyers cannot select which work they purchase and the cards will be sold anonymously, meaning the artists will not be identified until after the event. The list of participants is posted online and at the show, allowing you to guess at who created what.

Over 100 of us made a small work on paper inspired in some way by Soane that would fit into a 6- x 8-inch mat. The authors are a diverse group of artists and designers, including Damien Hirst, Vivian Westwood, Christopher Bailey, Allegra Hicks, and Manolo Blahnik.

For two hundred pounds one of these can be yours, selected randomly for you from the group. Try your luck and see if you win a Damien Hirst or a Thomas Jayne. Here are some of the pieces from the show. See soane.org/forthcomingexhibitions for further information, note there is a limited supply of tickets available.

And, so you know, my work may or may not be included in this sampling...
