A Simple Pink Robe by Staszek Kotowski

July 10, 2010

RobeTwo weeks ago, my girls, Mia and Saskia, their friend India, and I went to designer Laura Bohn's summer soiree at her Bucks County country house in Pennsylvania. My husband was of course invited, but he is so enthralled in World Cup soccer that he had to stay home. It was a the perfect setting: two long white tables on the lawn under shady trees with rolling hills in the background. Lots of delicious food and drink and merriment; it was idylic. Laura and I are "neighbors" with only about 15 minutes between our country houses, and she also happens to be the only New Yorker I know who lives in Bucks county near me. I met a lot of her lovely friends who had made the trip out from the city.

One was a lovely couple, Loni Ludlow and Staszek Kotowski, and their cute dog, Max. Loni is an interior designer and Staszek is an artist who also paints a lot of murals in many different styles. His work is stunning and although I deeply admire his incredible ability and talent, I could not see how I could incorporate it into my work until I came across a simple Tromp L'oeil robe behind a door. I really love it and thought how fantastic this would look in a very minimal modern house...an unexpected gem behind a door--just stunning!

I REALLY want to incorporate this into one of my projects so I am hoping that Staszek and I can work together soon.

luki pisze:Szanowna Kasiu!Wszystko, o czym tu piszesz w spawire odmiany nazwy miejscowości Jedlicze to oczywiście prawda.

a single peosrn is more likely to get cancer from these machines than have their plane blown up. What do we do with this information? Is there a point where we can properly balance the health risks, the privacy concerns, and the security concerns. Furthermore, the reason this measure is so important to analyze is because it is just a part of a continuum. There is already intelligence chatter that women suicide bombers are being recruited to plant explosives in their bodies as breast implants. Since, as you point out, the scanners only detect objects on the outside of the skin, we would need to develop technology that searches the inside of travelers. This would also be needed to combat the bosom bombers you discuss. Thus, soon enough, we may all be subject to mandatory body-cavity searches at the airport. Where does this madness end?Kyllo provides just one potential opportunity. One that may, or may not, work. While Kyllo was a 5-4 decision the dissenting judges seemed to distinguish between off the wall and through the wall technology. They seemed to hint that if the technology saw through the wall of the home, that they would have been willing to vote with the majority. Scanners are through the wall if we consider clothing to be the wall that protect the intimate details of the home. But the majority votes seem to also be the the national security at all costs crowd so, interestingly, we could potentially find the same vote split. The dissenters of Kyllo finding the use of the technology unconstitutional, while Kyllo's proponents find the use of the technology okay. However, this is all hyper speculation at this point because we can not be sure that SCOTUS will ever hear the case, or how it will be decided considering the change in the composition of the court since '01.
