Mike and Maaike Wallpaper

July 5, 2010

Mike and Maaike

I collaborate a lot with architects and sometimes convincing an architect that you want to do something for purely aesthetic reasons is just not good enough. When I discovered the brilliantly talented Mike and Maaike had designed a series of wallpapers called Wayfinder for Rollout I saw it as "reason" enough, but l was happy to find out that this paper also serves a functional purpose within the context of architecture--even more reason to use it. "In 1974 a system of symbols was produced through a collaboraton between AIGA and the US Department of Transportation" and this is what Mike and Maaike drew inspiration from.

Here is Mike and Maaike's reasoning:

wallpaper = decorative

symbols = function

symbols + wallpaper = functional decoration

From one wallpaper designer to another, I think that this is a great idea, works really well in the space.

Love it!
