Karim Rashid's Kairo Chair
July 4, 2010

I love seeing designers change things up. Karim Rashid seems to have broken away from his usual world of amoeba-shaped furniture and is showing us something very different. I am not used to seeing wooden furniture from this designer and I love that the Kairo chair is made from solid fragrant cedar wood. Out with rounded forms and in with the facets! This chair is a joint project between Karim Rashid and RIVA 1920 Industria Mobili SpA.
"When I designed the Kairo chair for RIVA 1920, I was guided by the woodworking process itself used to produce a piece of furniture from a simple block of wood, with the 'objective of removing the least quantity of wood possible from the trunk," said Rashid.
