Hidden Luxury in Zurich

June 18, 2010

"Know where to find the information and how to use it--that's the secret of success." -Albert Einstein

After attending this year's inspiring Salone del Mobile, I, along with millions of other air travelers, was stranded in Europe. Although I would have preferred being home, I was very fortunate to have been stranded in a place like Europe. I'm sure many of you would have felt the same. Plus, I took into consideration that my personal loss of time held nothing in comparison to the enormous financial thrashing the airline industry took. I wasn't going to allow the depressing circumstances to bring me down; so, I quickly stormed up a plan.

The Luxury

From Milan, I decided to relocate to the calmer surroundings of Zurich. I've stopped there many times in between trips, and many other creative individuals I'm sure will attest that Zurich is one of the best cities to be delayed while traveling by air. Not only is the Zurich international airport intimately well organized and facilitating, but also it is extremely close to the city center so one can decide to take a last-minute relaxing spa break in between flights.

The Luxury

While refueling my own emotional and physical selves, I decided to meet up with my local dear friends. We had a fantastic brunch near the lakefront while sitting under the bright spring sun. The meal could not have been more relaxing and comforting, and immediately after, we organically began a stroll towards the center of Zurich, where I discovered something quite new to add to my travel log.

The Luxury

For me it was a definite treasure hunt discovery to walk into a tiny and hidden vintage luxury fashion and accessory boutique in Zurich. The name of the shop: The Luxury. The quite appropriate, straightforward name is the must stopover place to discover high-end vintage treasures.

The Luxury

Owned and operated by two young fashion style gurus Mr. Mario Margelist and Mr. Peter Nitz, The Luxury is located at Unter Zaune 5, as well as online. If you cannot find what you're searching for, the delicious owners will search the world for you.

The Luxury

But at least once, you must visit this charming and delightful secret shop in person. From the sidewalk, one would miss the humble shop window, especially if you walk the same pace as I do on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Once inside, its modest interior feels like a fashionista's well-maintained private closet, a room full of great archival luxury fashion items. I also love that the store is not dramatically lit like trendy retail boutiques, but well enough to see what you're about to ensemble.

The Luxury

Even if you have to forego that spa treatment during a layover, I fully advise you to discover the door to The Luxury!
