ICFF: A Few of My Favorite Things

May 20, 2010

More and more, ICFF week seems to be about the events peripheral to the show itself. Not to protest too much—I held a reception in my showroom last Thursday—but it seemed like I went to a half dozen openings and drank twice as many caipirinhas before even setting foot in the Javits Center on Sunday. Sensing a need to pace myself—there would be a Public Bike ride to SoHo Sunday afternoon, courtesy of Rob Forbes, plus a reception at Tretorn afterward, along with more events on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday—I strolled around the show with my camera, open to whatever caught my eye.

Ten of my favorite images, in no particular order, are shown here, with thanks to the following:

David D’Imperio Lighting, for the gilt aluminum hanging fixture and vascular-looking sconce; Pratt Institute, for the caning chair (by Chia Lin Hsu) and the Asian-inspired translucent panels; Graviti Zone Rugs; Ango Design, for the silk cocoon lamp diffuser; John Ross Design, for the wooden pedestal and sculptures; Park Hyun Sun, for the minimalist display of folding chairs; Art Future Design School of Saint Petersburg; Carmen Salazar, for the hand-blown glass fixtures; Molo Designs, for the fold-to-nothing hanging light foms; and whoever did the illuminated tubular sculpture installation.

That's a new "design"? They are folding chairs! Next "new" will be the matching card table.

Thanks for the ICFF week roundup. With the flurry of inticing and great events, some of the new designs can go un-noticed. My feet still hurt.

I loved the Park Hyun Sun folding chairs, too. A simple but eye-catching booth!
