The New York Botanical Garden

“I do desire we may be better strangers.” -William Shakespeare
Whenever I stare at an orchid blossom, I feel as if I am staring at a character: an exotic one. I am not sure if I love orchids or in love with them. Never mind feeling confused, I simply love how beautiful they are. Timely, I was able to see the New York Botanical Garden’s annual Orchid Show before it closed on April 11. This year’s show was titled “Cuba in Flower.”

Seven dollars and 20 minutes later, I stood in front of a beautiful conservatory. The building is palatial and symmetrical; so grand! However, once I walked into the hall, it felt intimate and I enjoyed my solitude amongst the orchids that greeted my steps.

The spring chill from outside evaporated immediately with a rainforest temperature as I stepped inside. I could almost smell the ferns and hear the birds singing. The stars of the show were confident performers, both fresh and diva-like, each portrayed their distinctive character and grace. I just wish I could have brought one home with me.

Please look at my snap shots, and I hope you’ll agree that the orchids were most gorgeous. Don’t miss them next year!
