Homegrown Inspiration

February 27, 2009

“Modern decorative art is not decorated.” –Le Corbusier

My journeys take me to many different places, including regional landmarks, historic sites, incredible architectural monuments, and exotic resorts where I naturally learn and become filled with ideas and concepts. Often, my inspirations come intimately from familiar places—homes at which my friends reside. I learn so much from their ways of living—not only from their décor and artistic expression but from the energy reflected in their choices.

I hold various feelings and experiences by being in my friends’ spaces. Perhaps I feel a sense of peace from the balance of a room, of emotion from a photograph or painting, or of irony from the juxtaposition of objects not ordinarily coupled. I am even intrigued by simple spaces, those not professionally rendered. I find a beauty in the kind of life that dwells there. Unpretentious, open, and honest, maybe? And the comfort of these less-decorated homes provides me with relaxation, an invitation to let my guard down.

No matter the type of space, or the amount of design technique implemented, it’s amazing to be able to learn more about each dweller—a getting-to-know-you through home décor. I must say that in each of my friend’s homes, I always find evidence of why we are friends. That’s always a nice reminder.

Very simply, I’d like to share the images of some living space walls and art pieces of my friends. I hope you will be inspired as much as I have. The images are from the brave ones, the ones with whom I hold a great deal of appreciation for sharing. Thank you Peter Brown, Gilles Compain, Charles de St. Germain, Michale Estrada, Bao Feng, Siri Jenthanomma, Stephen Jones, Conor Kennedy, Ron Laxamana, Rick Livingston, Joshua Mann, Evan Orensten, Thom Ortiz, Arthur Redman, Fernando Rodriguez, Josh Rubin, Thomas Stallman, Chris Stulpin, Rick Talmage, Rafe Totengco, and China Young.

I know many of the folks whose spaces are represented and they certainly reflect who they really are-introspective Michale, imaginative Thom, cerebral Josh and so on and so forth. Thank you for sharing -it was a fascinating piece.

How fascinating to see truly into others homes with only their filters, and not an editor, or camera man or art director. Of course I love the perfect images arranged by proffesionals, but these images show the love and perfect spot each has made for themselves. Very creative piece.

I have always found it interesting to see how people function around there own homes. I really like how you put it toward a client of your own. I think just seeing what is important to them is fun.
