Currier & Ives

January 13, 2010

Contractor Mitch has promised that when I come up this Friday, I will be “pleasantly surprised.” Does this mean he will have a hot meal prepared in my newly installed kitchen? Will I hear the faint sound of toilets flushing? Will I be told to watch the walls because some of the paint is still wet? This would all be good but I know it’s not going to happen. What I will probably see is most of the glass panels installed, not sealed, but installed. He is right though, I will be pleasantly surprised.

On January 2, one of the local dealers in Hudson had an ice skating party on the frozen pond at his house. I won’t mention his name in case there are some people he purposely didn’t invite, and I don’t want to become the Michael Musto of Columbia County. It was a beautiful afternoon, a snow-covered landscape, skaters on ice, and an enormous bonfire a true winter wonderland. Growing up in Southern California, it was my most Currier and Ives moment. The guests were all people living in the area, both full time and weekenders, all so nice. I’m going to love living there.

It’s taken me a few weeks to get into my working pace, but I’m back. Clients have returned from vacations and everyone is eager to get going. I even have a few new ones anxious to start. If that saying is true, “as Siskin Valls goes, so does America go,” then things are looking up America. I am looking forward to working hard and then relaxing on the weekend at Brokeback Manor. Are you listening, contractor Mitch?

Your car didn't get struck in the snow or anything, I hope.
