A Spring Housewarming

The negative response to my decision to use the Droog fixture was overwhelming. I was flooded with calls, emails, and comments from readers appalled that I was going against my rule of using unique fixtures in prominent locations. I was betraying my followers (of which there are many apparently) and selling out all for the sake of convenience. Then I woke up, it was all a dream.

The Droog is a great light fixture, but one that we have all seen many times. If a client had suggested it, I probably would have said, “Yes it is a wonderful, but don’t you think one might become tired of it after a while?” I wouldn’t use the “T” (trendy) word. Thirty years from now, when I find one in a vintage shop, (God forbid I will be shopping for light fixtures in 30 years) I will be so happy to have come across this period piece, “Oh look, remember these? How retro!” Maybe I should buy it now and put it on hold for 30 years. If I’m not around to pick it up maybe my heirs can do it.

Once again lured to visit the site by contractor Mitch in expectation of being “pleasantly surprised,” I have scheduled a visit with architect Joan for Friday. With camera in tote, I will document my expression of “pleasant surprise.” I don’t think he will be turning over keys to the front door, but any progress will be appreciated. I was planning a Spring house warming party, but I’m not sending out invitations yet.
