Be Specific

July 15, 2009

Another week, another vacation—that’s my life. Just returned from Los Angeles where I attended the wedding of an old high school friend’s daughter. Some advice about L.A.: don’t cross against the red light, traffic or not; don’t jay walk, traffic or not; or take your car when travelling more than two blocks, traffic or not. However please feel free to make a right turn on a red light or dash out in front of any on-coming car as you, the pedestrian, have the right-of-way. If Los Angeles is nothing else, it is a city where the pedestrian is celebrated. Pity no one walks.

I know I promised a floor plan of the changes in the North Wing of Brokeback Manor, but I don’t think that will happen. I can’t seem to find the copy faxed to Contractor Mitch and I don’t have the time to make a new one. What I will do is take pictures Thursday when I am up there. I am charging my camera’s battery as we speak. I’m sure there has been so much accomplished since I’ve been gone. Last date I was told it would be done was June—my professional guess is that I’m not going to make it.

I am in the process of ordering all wall and floor finishes. Now if I were to take the advice I give to all my clients, these would have been ordered long ago. Beside the obvious fact that more often than not these materials have a lead time, it also has to do with pinning down the design, cementing the concept that you had from the onset of the job. Of course this would mean you had a specific design concept from the onset of the job—concept yes, specific no. I knew what I wanted, but I have had so much time to change courses, thanks in part to Mitch. I knew how I wanted to live: one large living-dinning-conservatory-den-sun room, one semi-combined bedroom with bathroom extension, and two guest rooms en suite. The specifics or details of this concept have changed and changed and changed many times. I have been absolutely one hundred percent certain, no doubt about it sure at least two or three times for each room. If I would have hired me I would have fired me long ago and not returned my deposit. Thank God I couldn’t afford me.

I'm sure the product will be well worth the wait! Of that you can be "100% certain." Your house will be the talk of the town once its completed! Don't grow so anxious. This is art and design at its best and time is of essence when creating something this grand!
