Re-Energized

April 21, 2010

Contractor Mitch asked me why I hadn’t been up to the Manor. I explained to him that I was tired of the lack of progress. Again, he went on about all the work that had taken place, work that was not really noticeable. “Mitch,” I explained, “I make a living dealing with the noticeable.” It would be like expecting a client to get excited about all the careful attention I had paid to the lining of the curtain treatment. Just how much could I expect them to care about its stitching? Or, “Please come down to the upholsterer and check out the stuffing of the sofa seat cushions, you are going to love it.” “Mitch, hang some curtains, install a chandelier, turn the fountain on or something!” Alright, so I don’t have a fountain, there are no curtains or chandeliers, but put something up even if you have to take it down after I leave.

The talk must have worked because when I walked into the rather messy construction site I saw that he had installed the wood on the chimney breast. This totally re-energized my excitement about the house. Of course everything else was as it had been, but at least there was something to focus on. He even installed the sconce over the wood storage. When I went to straighten it, it fell off in my hand, but the intention was a good one. Installed but not connected, better than nothing.

I don’t know if I will have any new surprises when I go up next but I sure hope so. Perhaps he will have done a temporary tile installation using chewing gum or Elmer’s glue, but that will work for me. Stay tuned…

OMG! I feel as if this part of your house was a baby at one point and I watched it grow! The evolution of this fireplace has been long, but definitely worth the wait! Hopefully there will be plenty romantic evenings shared in the near future! I'd love to take a drive with you one day on the weekend to finally take an upclose glimpse of this masterpiece! Oh, btw, my closing should be happening hopefully by next week! How exciting! I will send you an invite to my house warming!

Doesn't the site just yearn for a pair of those $5,000+ Gulassa swing arm lamps, held up with Gorilla glue....for now?!
