Since You Asked

With so much happening in the world (that is, the world outside Brokeback Manor), I’ve given little thought on what to write for this week’s post. My blog, as entertaining and informative as it is, is probably not the first place you go for insight and information on world or national events. And, perhaps, the thoughts of Paul Siskin don’t quite match those of Maureen Dowd or David Brooks. But interior designers’ opinions do matter, too.

Watching the vice-presidential debate at my friend Kitty’s was the most anticipated event of my week. We sat upright on the bed with her two dogs, eagerly awaiting the blunders. My dog, Mrs. Biggs, wasn’t invited, due to her quirky tendency to attack and kill others of her species. (People can be so petty!) The show was a bit of a let down, gosh darn it, and a big wink to you all! I personally think Tina Fey does a much better job of being Sarah Palin than Sarah Palin does of being Sarah Palin. I would switch parties if the Republicans decided to let Tina stand in for the next four years.

My next insight is this: Why is gay marriage the kiss of death for politicians? Even for liberals! I can’t believe that anyone who is pro-choice would not be pro-this-choice. I think Obama does support this (in his heart of hearts), but Biden assured the public that he does not. The worst thing about an election year is that it always makes me more aware of just how out of touch I am with America. 

Now to the economy. It sucks. Even after several explanations, I still don’t understand why no one saw this coming. Good thing I’m not in a luxury service business; I’d be nervous if I were. Also, good thing I didn’t decide to build a house and take on more debt than ever before. Yes, it’s a great financial climate for all this. At least I sold all my stock in order to finance Brokeback Manor. I just hope that that wasn’t one of the reasons for the market crash. 

Contractor Mitch tells me that next week, they might start installing the skylights in the still-open shell of a house. I have my doubts. I’m anxious to close up the house before the first frost, the one that could ruin my crops (if I had crops). I am planning on growing ivy on the outside of the house. My friend Natasha told me last night that I should have started growing the ivy before. She knew someone that grew ivy on a trellis and when the house was done, they attached the trellis to the structure. Great idea. Better idea if I had heard it earlier. Must find out if it is too late to do in October, and if not, how do I do it? Does anybody know?
