Fenestration Day!

Just for the record, if I win the lottery, I am putting Brokeback Manor on wheels and driving it to Montecito, California. I just returned and think it is one of the most beautiful areas of the country. In addition, I stayed in what is arguably one of the most beautiful houses I’ve ever seen; the home of John Saladino and Betty Barrett. Inspirational! If you haven’t seen his book “Villa,” be sure to find a copy.
As beautiful as the interior is, the gardens are just as awe inspiring. True he did have hundred year old olive and eucalyptus trees to work with, but it is impossible to tell where the old foliage ends and new landscaping begins. The same could be said of the interior, a blending of old and new woven together without a seam. That I believe is his mastery. It is truly timeless.
Back to reality…it’s official, the windows and doors are ready and en route to Brokeback Manor. The town was thinking of declaring the day of their arrival a local holiday, Fenestration Day, but I think it might be a bit much. A simple parade down Warren Street should suffice. Next steps are sanding, painting, installing, and, finally, glazing. This is all to be done before anymore work on the inside or outside can be done, and Mitch thinks I will be in the house by June. I’m thinking more harvest time.
