Still Packing

December 25, 2008

I’m still packing up the apartment but instead of feeling like I’m moving, it’s more like relocating to a storage room. Ridding myself of stuff is such a small part of this process.  I have visions of my storage room looking exactly like my apartment but without windows.  Idea for a shelter magazine article, “How To Decorate a Store Room”.

I’m sure the whole process would be different were I taking everything to my house, even putting it into storage in the basement would be exciting,  It’s this interim step that kills the enthusiasm.  God knows how long it will be until everything can be shipped to Brokeback Manor.  Mitch assures me that the indoor subterranean pool he calls my basement will be ready in about a month to store things.  I’d feel more secure were I storing boating and pool equipment—furniture, no.

I no longer have to think about clearing some of the trees on my property, the latest ice storm did that for me.  Now I know they weren’t example specimen trees, but they were still trees.  I don’t think Mother Nature was quite as selective as I would have been, but at least it was free—that is until I get the bill to haul away the debris.  It’s a good thing I went with a real fireplace; all that firewood and kindling going to waste would be a real shame.  I came up with what I thought would be a great idea for my fireplace but it got shot down right away by my architect.  We both sat down and agreed to go with the original idea only scaled up in size.  There is something to be said about that saying, “your original idea is usually you best idea”. With the fireplace design settled, all the major design problems have been solved, until the next ones come up.  Luckily Joan and I are still friends.
