The Rug Company: A Temporary Home

March 7, 2010

While The Rug Company is renovating their real showroom in SoHo, they are occupying a temporary space on Spring Street in Manhattan. I happened to be passing it on my way to a lunch meeting and just had to pop in to check it out.

What a brilliant idea: tin foil on the walls, columns, ceiling, shelves—well, tin foil everywhere actually. Lauren and Steven, the lovely folks who work there, told me that it gets a little too toasty in there when the sun starts shining, but I have to say that the space looks fantastic and it’s a great way to work on that pre-season tan, no? It’s all very temporary; all needs to be removed when they move back into their fabulous newly renovated space (I hear it’s going to be super cool).

In the meantime, you can go and shop for fabulous rugs on Spring Street in a dazzling silver box. Just look for the super-sized balls of orange and purple yarn in the window (the work of Miranda Lloyd who used to be a stylist at Domino Magazine).
