House Guests

House guests are a given. For city dwellers who own a country, beach, or farm house outside the city, you are bound to be popular with the city folk needing a weekend away from the hustle and bustle. For city dwellers, there are always a fair share of friends and family visiting looking for a place to stay. As a designer, I often need to think about what happens if you are a guest, (and are lucky enough to be put in a guest room as opposed to a sofa bed) and you need a place to drop your suitcase, your hat and your coat.
I like the design of this armoire because I think it provides just the right sort of storage for a guest: keys, iPhone, toiletry bag, stack of underwear, shelves for folded clothes, place to hang some clothes, etc. I found it on Core 77.
This piece is designed by Mathilde Alders in the Man and Leisure department of the Eindhoven Design Academy "where the students develop an awareness of the changing world around them and of their future as designers within that world. They have an eye not only for individual products and services but also for total systems. While analyzing the vast array of things that people take for granted today, Man and Leisure students set their sights on creating the commonplace objects of tomorrow."
