David Rockwell Designs the Oscar Sets

February 19, 2009

A rendering of the 2009 Academy Awards set at L.A.’s Kodak Theatre by David Rockwell.

I am so excited to watch the Oscars this year. As always, I am going to soak up all the celebrity glamour and fabulous fashion, but what sets this year’s Academy Awards apart is going to be the sets at the Kodak Theatre. This year the sets have been designed by the amazingly talented architect and Interior Design Hall of Famer David Rockwell.  He is no stranger to this kind of thing after having designed the sets for Hairspray, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and other Broadway shows.

Renderings of the set changes of the 2009 Academy Awards by David Rockwell.

David lives on my street in New York, and I often see him with his kids waiting for the bus. As I walk by, I always give him a little wave and he always responds with a wave and a smile. I have meet him a couple of times through Cindy Allen, but I wonder if he knows who I am! Regardless, he is always friendly. So make sure to take special notice of the sets this year. I am sure they will be spectacular!
