Silhouettes

I hope you read the story in this month’s Interior Design about the exhibit at the Zuiderzee museum. Two of the close-up shots were taken by my wonderful, talented, sweet husband Jaime. When I came back from Holland a couple of months ago, I couldn’t wait to share the images of this exhibit with Cindy Allen. It turns out, she was already working on a story about this fabulous project.

The exhibit is called Silhouettes / Students of Dutch fashion academies and it runs along the dike that stretches out to the Zuiderzee. The fisherman’s wives and children from this old fishing village used to wait on the dike awaiting their husbands’ and fathers’ safe return. This age old tradition is relived by this dramatic image of 100 black mannequins dressed in outfits designed by students of the Dutch fashion academies. This project was realized under the supervision of Alexander van Slobbe and Ferdinand Schmeits and I can tell you that it is simply stunning.

The detail of the designs on the dresses made me gasp (I am being dramatic!). The fabrics used had to be suitable to withstand the elements, so they used  parachute fabric and tulle. It’s a wonderful walk along the dike and great to be able to look at the details from all angles. Anyone going to Holland this summer? Make sure to include this in your itininary.
