My Styrofoam Obsession

January 18, 2010

Months ago, you might remember I wrote about an opening at Mixed Greens art gallery. You may recall that it was the night my styrofoam obsession was ignited. I drooled over a polar bear by Jinkee Choi which had so cleverly been carved out of styrofoam packaging. I dreamt about it a lot after the opening, but times being what they are, I put it in a box in my mind filled with other dreamy obsessions.

Just before leaving for my Christmas break with my family, I received a call from Mixed Greens asking if I was home since they had a delivery to make. Box of chocolates, perhaps; I dont think so. What was delivered blew my mind! Paige, the gallery owner, my client, and good friend, had purchased this for me the night of the opening and secretly held it for me all this time. How much do I love this girl and my polar bear, too?! My polar bear has happily found a loving home in the stairwell of our weekend house in Pennsylvania.

Thank you for loving my piece.
Today, Heather, the director of Mixed Greens, visited my studio and let me know about my(now yours) polar bear's location. Lovely display.
You may enjoy my other works on jinkeechoi.com too.
