John Wayne in the House

November 14, 2009

A couple of weeks ago, I was in Factory Antiques in Silverdale near my house in Pennsylvania and I came across a life size bust of John Wayne, but kept on going.  Somehow John stuck in my mind, and knowing that I was not going back to the country for a couple of weeks got me wondering if he would still be there waiting for me.  So last weekend, when we finally headed back, I rushed back to find him first thing on Saturday morning and there he was, waiting for me.  John now looks dapper on my oak dining table. It’s funny sometimes how one’s home comes together.  I certainly never thought that I would own a bust of John Wayne. It’s one thing getting the furniture, the color, the scale, and all the other important elements down, but it’s really the last decorative layer that really makes a house a home. Often finding just the right objects takes time. I’m glad I was at the right place at the right time and that Mr. Wayne is now a part of our home. I will try to remember to give him a wink everytime I pass by.
