Inspired by a Budgie

March 14, 2009

My client gave me a photo of this budgie as inspiration for her office in her home. It’s been really fun to be able to create an interior around this image.

We are using feathery billowy fabrics, beautiful blues of varying shades, and injecting a bit of sulpher yellow as a highlight. For the light fixture over her desk, which will be a very large 36-inch dome, we have taken things more literally and have started working with And Bobs Your Uncle to create a light fixture over her desk using turquoise feathers. I was happy to hear that the feathers are harvested from the ground after the birds loose them, so no birds (including cute budgies) were harmed in making the light fixture.

ABYU are the go-to guys if you are looking to create a fixture using feathers. They have done amazing work and I think one of my favorites is the round feathery balls they did for Lenny Kravitz over his pool table some years back.
