Styrofoam obsessed

November 2, 2009

My obsession with styrofoam started some months ago when I went to fabulous group show at Mixed Greens gallery and saw this piece by Jinkee Choi.   I got a "gotta have it" kind of feel although I’m sad to say that the polar bear does not belong to me.  Then this week I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Jason Rogenes as we discussed the details of using one of his amazing sculptures in the open stairwell of a townhouse I am working on with DDG Partners.

As a result I can’t walk past a piece of styrofoam packaging without my heart skipping a beat.  The townhouse has a lot of "green" features like  solar panels and natural grasses on roof, and eco-friendly waterless urinals from Duravit.  I can’t think of a better way of continuing this eco-friendly endeavor in the way of art  than recycling styrofoam packaging for this incredible sculpture in the stairwell.

There are many amazing things about being Paige West’s interior designer,  one of which is that she is a "contemporary art addict".  Its fantastic coming to the end of the project when all the furniture is getting delivered and we are setting it all up and then she puts an awesome spin on things with the art that she has selected for the walls.  Its always a surprise and I am always delighted!
