Knitting

I am really fascinated by knitting at the moment. I don’t knit. I don’t think I am personally going to be picking up needles and yarn any time soon, but I have really been taken in by the wonderful things that can be created with two long pointy sticks and some yarn-like material. I like that people are taking this old craft and thinking outside of the box and have started knitting with unexpected materials: electrical cord, industrial tape and torn strips of fabric.

Not only are the materials taking me by surprise, but people have taken to creating unexpected objects that I am sure most grannies would be shocked by. Like this light by french designer Philippe Tyberghien. At Brooklyn Designs this year, I was really excited by a Pratt student chandelier design; Elizabeth Pavese’s Indulgence chandelier is made of knitted parachute cord and a bicycle wheel rim.
