Recycled Tile from Urban Archeology

April 25, 2009

Reading my March issue of Interior Design I turned to page S26 and WOW…I was completely blown away by what I saw. Do these tiles really exist? I read the text, jumped on my bike and head down to Urban Archaeology, which is all of about four minutes on my bike from my office.

In the store, I went up the stairs to the tile section I was standing bewildered holding the samples. They are beyond gorgeous. They feel more like resin than actual marble, which makes a lot of sense especially after trying to figure out where one would quarry bright orange marble. These tiles are made from a mixute of materials, one of which happens to be marble. Not appropriate for wet conditions, these tiles are more appropriate for cladding walls where you need some texture or color.

They're straight from Kubrick's Clockwork Orange. They must be! ;)

These are fantastic! I have a nightclub pictured, or a wall behind the reception desk at a funky salon.
