Meet my friend Hanne; she has a hot pink streak in her hair. Her kitchen has a hot pink streak in it, too. When we designed this kitchen and needed to select an accent color for the glass backsplash and the barstools we immediately knew the hue. We held up Pantone color chips to her hair to find just the right color: hot pink! What makes this kitchen successful is that it was designed specifically for Hanne. My most successful designs come from close collaborations with my clients—making decisions based on personal information unique to the respective client.
The bedroom was for one of my very favorite clients, Paige. We adopted a mermaid theme since her first date with her husband was at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. Paige actually found the mermaid lamp on eBay and sent me the link. I love how over the top this topless lady is. She puts a big smile on my face. Note the mermaid photographs on the wall, as well.
These are just two examples that make up the most exciting part of the design process for me—finding my client’s individuality and melding it with their interiors.
